BODY-SOUL-SPIRIT

1. BACKGROUND

Then the LORD God took some soil from the ground and formed a man out of it; he breathed life-giving breath into his nostrils and the man began to live (Genesis 2: 7). Thus, God formed us with three parts ?dust of the ground? (our body), ?breath of life? (our spirit) and ?living soul? (our soul). God made us with a spirit, soul and body for His purpose. The SOUL is the real you. It is what makes you different from everyone else. It gives you your identity. It is your will, emotion and intellect. It is the gate way into the SPIRIT. That is why whatever is fed into SOUL affects the SPIRIT. SPIRIT lives in the SOUL which gives life to the BODY; while SOUL lives in the BODY and the BODY is the flesh who works for the glory of God. BODY is the doer and performs the work of God. You are commanded to love God with these three distinct facilities. For example- Mobile Phone is BODY, chip or memory chip is your SOUL, and Battery the life-giving force from God is your SPIRIT.

2. BODY

BODY is the flesh who works for the glory of God. For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead. (James 2:26) Then the LORD God took some soil from the ground and formed a man out of it; he breathed life-giving breath into his nostrils and the man began to live. (Genesis 2: 7) You were made from soil, and you will become soil again. (Genesis 3:19) BODY requires food to grow and not die. Do not fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. (Mathew 10:28)

3. SOUL

The SOUL is part of us that covers our will, affections and thoughts (i.e. that connects with our fellow human beings. Your SOUL, the real you is what will experience the pearly gates or eternity in Hell (Mathew 25:46). SOUL determines where you will spend your eternity. The SOUL is what makes you different from everyone else. It gives you your identity. It is your will, emotion and intellect. It is the gate way into the SPIRIT. That is why whatever is fed into SOUL affects the SPIRIT. The word of God is the only good source of food for the SOUL, it nourishes the SOUL (1 Peter 2:2). But Jesus answered, “The scripture says, ‘Man cannot live on bread alone, but needs every word that God speaks.” (Mathew 4: 4; Luke 4:4)

4. SPIRIT

The SPIRIT is the part that connects to God and covers matters like faith, trust, worship & so on…. (i.e. inner most part of our being). The SPIRIT is there to guide the SOUL (Romans 8:14), while BODY is like a cover. SPIRIT is from God (GEN 2:7). That is what keeps you alive. You don’t fade back into God, your SPIRIT goes back to God (ECCL 12:7) It is the God in you which if fed on the word of God grows to the level of feeling the presence of the Holy Spirit of God in you. Without being born again you are spiritually dead. There is no God in you automatically unless you are born again you cannot be saved.

4.1 Meaning of Born Again

If you believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross as payment for your sins and you repent, which is when we turn away from all our evil ways and we stop vices. The Holy Spirit helps to make this a reality. There we go to live with God in BODY, SOUL and SPIRIT. The Holy SPIRIT serves as a guide and is a free gift to all Christians (1 Corinthians 12:7-11; Acts 2:35).

  1. The Sabbath Day is truly a gift! How wonderful to be granted a day of reprieve while honoring God. The connection to His own day of rest is most humbling.

  2. teaching your readers about the sabbath is very important, as we need to know why, how and when to observe this day

  3. I still struggle with this one. I have not quite gotten it right. I know we are to rest and give glory to God but how does one do this properly in the modern day? Some say to do it on Saturday, others on Sunday. I am just confused about it and I always give up on it and I know my relationship with God would grow deeper if I found understanding of it.

    • Dear Adam,
I can understand your situation. Most of us have (are) gone (going) through similar experiences. We need to understand the differences between Worship and Sabbath keeping. We need to worship God on every day but remembering and keeping Sabbath [exclusive day to worship God, following the Sabbath rest guidelines] is the 4th commandment.

Moreover, we also find in Revelation 14, particularly in verse 12 it says, “Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith / testimony of Yeshua [Jesus]”. Also mentioned in Revelation 12:17, “… which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Yeshua the Messiah [Jesus Christ]”.
In James 2:10, “For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.” Please read the scripture, there are many, but I have quoted few verses to reflect upon them.
      God Bless you.
